child support while adoption process

I had a post in the Adoption section but would like to make my question a bit more simple. My ex is behind on child support and has now agreed to give up his rights but told me to close the support order first. Does child support stop when adoption process begins or does it continue until the adoption is complete?

Child support continues until a judge orders otherwise. In this case that wouldn't happen until the end of the adoption process. However, if you also intend to waive arrearages that may be a "moot" point.

I certainly wouldn't close the child support case before he signs the adoption paperwork. He could then refuse to sign and you would have to start all over with getting child support.
