I live in Ohio. My ex-wife and I both make $35,000/yr. When we first calculated child support, I was paying $400/mo. in rent and she was paying the house payment ($800/mo.).

It has been two years, and she sold the house and has moved herself and our daughter in with her parents and pays no rent. Conversely, I pay $745/mo. in rent now in order to be closer to my daughter. We have shared custody. I'm paying much more in rent than before, and she has no rent or grocery bills (her parents pay for everything.

Would it be worth going back to an attorney in order to recalculate my child support payment? Am I wasting my time, or is it actually possible to get my cs payment lowered a little.

Any advise is welcome!

I think one or both of these sites have cs calculator on them so you can figure it up yourself.
http://www.acf.dhhs.gov/programs/cse/index.html

Or you could try going to a search engine, typing in Ohio child support or child support enforcement and it should give your state's CSE web site. They have calculator's on them. If you have split custody where you get the children a certain amount of days out of the year, they and you should use that worksheet. It will tell you how many days it goes by and if it applies to you..you need to use that one. They should be using it too..if not..you could file to modify and try to get them to use that one.

However, child support is based on the combined gross incomes of both parents. In most states anyway..it will give more info on the sites to how they base it. It doesn't include, rent, utilities, etc.
