child support

hi i am from new york
and this is the problem
my husband after 16 years of paying his child support
which was done not in the court but mutually is being sued
for child support i dont understand this
b,c we have been current with his child support and the thing is that we usually give him cash since he comes over and we give him the money sometimes it was checks but that was years ago and the proof we need have been either lost or disgarded and i dont know how to help my husband i know for a fact that he gives him his support b,c im the one who made out the checks and given him the cash when he comes over
so what can i do should i go to court with my husband and tell this to the judge im very afriaid
please help me help him can i go to the court house before the court date and retain help since i cannot afford a lawyer who can help me

Paying in cash is just asking for trouble. What are they requesting in the CS petition? How much? From when?

Has she actually filed suit or is she going through the CSEA? DA? Have you actually received legal papers?

What court orders are in place? Any at all? No custody order?
