Hi, If anybody can help me with Child Support Laws in Massachusetts, It would be really appreciated.

My question is: My ex-husband does not pay child support. He recently has gone on SSI Disability because he has Cerrosis of the Liver (sorry about the spelling), which he got because of his drug abuse! I contact the DOR Child Support Division and they told me they can not attach his checks.
I then contacted SSI and they also told me they could not do that.

We have two minor children and I find it ridiculous that he does not have to support them, while I have to go out and work two jobs.

Is there anyone that can please help me here.

Thanks in advance

The first thing you should do is file an order of support with the court. Talking to these people is basically useless. Go to family court and tell the judge or intake clerk that you wish to file for Child Support. Let them deal with how to handle getting money from your children's father. Dont try to offer too much info with regard to his "condition". I believe it is federal law (I think that supercedes state law, I think) that a father of children must monetarily support his biological children until they are independent, join the military, death, or if the father gives up his rights as a parent. He has to legally support the kids. Dont always accept what these people tell you, alot of the times when you go in person, there is a whole different story to be told.
Always document everything and keep a log of all occurences.
