I was presently living in Colorado and working for a very large company and making good money. After a seperation, I was ordered to pay child support. I lost my house to foreclosure and had to move back home to Maryland, and I have been unable to find work. Since I am unable to make CS payments due to having no income, what can I do to keep myself out of trouble?

Hello there! Well I don't know what the laws are there. But in Arkansas...it doesn't matter if you are working or not. You will still be responsible for paying your child support.

However, I know that my one of ex husbands went to the Child Support Enforcement that was handling our case and he asked for a modification on his child support since he was no longer working where he was at the time of our divorce and his current job was not paying him the same amount of money and he was not able to pay what the courts had ordered him to pay. He had to feel out some forms and I also had to also feel out some forms. I had no say so in it and neither will she...I just had to prove what my income was and what debts I had and he had to do the same. But in my situation.....his modification was not granted. But I do know my first husband was able to get a modification on his child support a year after our divorce.

So you may want to call the Child Support Enforcement Office or the courts where the child support was issued and talk with them. Its better to nip it in the butt and try and work it out then ignore it because it won't go away. My first ex is over 10,000.00 behind in child support now! But that is because he ignored it and wouldn't try and do anything about it! I understand that people get in some bad situations...we all do....but not paying like he should be for almost 12 years is a little ridiculous when he was able to purchase a new home and a new vehicle!

I wish you luck and I hope everything turns out for you!

no harm or rudeness intended; it was kind of cute, but the expression is, 'nip it in the bud' (which will keep it from growing), as opposed to 'nip it in the butt' (which is self-explanatory!)

HAHAHAHAHAH LMAO!! Alax...I feel like a total idiot now!! :D Duh......I'm from Arkansas and we do say "nip it in the bud" and we also say "nip it in the butt". I wasn't thinking to well I guess.

I was trying to hurry up and type the letter and I didn't reread it or preview it to make sure everything sounded right before posting. Now I have reread it and if my English teacher had seen this 17 years ago she would have gotten on to me for several things!! Ha! Ha!

I didn't think you were being rude at all! I am just glad someone cared enough to point it out to me!:) Take care!
