I was asked a question by someone who came to me for counsel. In Texas, is a person who would pay child support in the event of a divorce for minor children, also responsible to pay support for a child fathered by a minor child? In other words, would a man pay child support for grandchildren if they are born to children for whom he pays child support, or at anytime?

I have looked through all of the state statutes regarding support and the only thing I caan find is that the person paying support for the minor with child(grandchild) would be held responsible for paying support on what is then termed grandchild is if the grandchild had been adopted by the minors parents, or had guardianship of the grandchild.

Actually there was high profile case in NJ a few months back where the State Supreme Courte (I think, it might have been the appellate court) ordered the father of a minor to pay Child Support for the child's child.

Rare though..
