No, the prisons are not responsible for supporting your child(ren). Guess that will fall all on you since he'll be spending the rest of his life in prison.

You shouldn't need public assistance anyway. They didn't create your kids, either, so if you can't get it, good.

You should work full time, at the very least.

I can't imagine what you've been told is true. But why not ask the prison?? Tell them you want forms and instructions and such.

You chose to have a child and to parent that child (rather than, say, making an adoption plan). It is also YOUR responsibility to work and provide for the child you chose to create. At minimum full time. Maybe full PLUS part time, if need be. Even if Dad WERE not in prison, you would still share financial responsibility for supporting your child IN ADDITION TO your responsibility to support yourself.

My husband's dad died just before hubby was born. No gov't assistance did his mom get get, no money from prison, no life insurance. His mom WORKED full time and supported HER child. She understood that it was her duty to support her child, as there was no other parent that could contribute toward that support.

No, there isn't any type of program in FL where the prison/state can be ordered to pay CS.

However, IF there is an already existing order for support, as long as it is active, it is possible for the state CSE to garnish any monies that are deposited into the inmate trust fund in the father's name. In other words, if one of his relatives or friends deposit any money for him, it can be garnished, but that is possible only if he doesn't owe the state or prison any money for public defender's fees, or for prison medical expenses.

This is possible, however, it is very seldom actually done because typically, after the first garnishment the inmate learns how to beat the system by having money deposied into a friend's account and then the friend allows him to use his account.

So, basically, the answer is no- you will not be able to recieve any CS, sorry.

Well I know inmates can work while in jail and get paid (not very much money though... not even minimum wage) I think it'd would be similar in prison..

If what you heard is true - well - you sure wouldn't get very much at all.
You don't want public assistance anyways- it will keep you trapped.
