My response:

All Family Law matters are Civil in nature - - unless you've been arrested and charged with a crime.

However, let me warn you. A Family Law matter can, in fact, turn into a "Quasi-Criminal" matter really quickly.

If your Summons emminates from an "Order to Show Cause Re: Contempt of Court" because of your failure to obey the previous court order to pay child support, there's every chance that the judge could order the Bailiff to take you into custody, and throw you in jail for your "Contempt of Court" (which is Criminal in nature).

Just make sure that when you go to court, you have a clean change of underwear and your toothbrush with you. You could wind up spending some time in the slammer.

But, there is a good side to this - - you'll meet a good friend of mine - - "Bubba" !

Good luck to you.
