I have read all about qualified immunity and civil rights violations by police officers. Let's assume the case is a VERY good one and the officers, local municipality and others (non-police) are facing violations that are proven to be reckless and intentional. In New York State, what could someone reasonably expect to receive as monetary damages for civil rights violations in a case before the state supreme court for a wrongful mental health arrest.

There is no rule of thumb -- it would depend on the county, the facts, who you are, who they are, and how sympathetic you are. In most cases, no lawyer would take these cases (ABSENT SOMETHING THAT GENERATES A LOT OF PUBLICITY)on a contingency though.

Let's say a lawyer DID take this case and is approaching a settlement...

FACTS: false statements made to 911 and police, police did not check out statements, police made statements (wistnessed by others) that individual has previous mental arrest record which was proven false...

PERSON ARRESTED: no previous legal arrests, impeccable credentials, college degree, lived in best section of city for 13 years

"THEY" ARE: 'former' friends, city police, one of five largest municipalities in NY state

TO ALAYWER: How much would you ask for? And what would a judge deem reasonable? (Just a ball park figure - OK.)
