Hi there ~ So we do annual shop/comparison for homeowners insurance on 5 motorcycles, 2 homes & 2 cars. 2 years ago a neighbors tree fell & took out a portion of our fencing. That neighbor turned the claim in to his homeowners insurance. They wouldn't cover it because the neighbor didn't know the tree was rotted. We decided not to put in a claim on our HOI & just repaired the fence out of pocket.....So now we find out Geico is dinging us for the claim!! We never turned it in. My question is how do we go about getting that black mark removed from our Geico quotes since we never turned it in nor even told them about the fence. We don't know how they even knew. Of course, the neighbor didn't offer to pay for the damages. We just ate the costs out of pocket.

GEICO only brokers homeowner's policies. They're not technically an insurer for these policies. Note that the homeowner's risk (and GEICO is not alone in this) is not determined solely based on your claim history. Previous owner's and, yes, even your neighbor's claims can cause you problems.
Yes, they count it against you even if you fix things on your own nickle.

There's nothing to "clear" here. Your property has the history of the tree falling. The insurer's risk is not changed by the fact that you didn't make a claim. You could have, and that's what matters.

Shop around.

Thank you, that helps me understand the whole mess a bit more. We did shop around & went with another company...I was just hoping to get that black mark off the Geico books, but guess that isn't going to happen... :/
