What is the name of your state? Connecticut

My question involves liability when an accident occurs and the resulting ticket issue is voided.
Basically I am being sued appox 2 years after the fact due to an accident with a school bus and by the driver of the bus. I am one of 2 people named in the suit for 2 separate accidents to this person and it is negligence that is being directed to me. I had attempted to pass this bus that was turning right into a street when a underlining section of black ice caused me to skid into the bus rear. No damage was seen on the bus and my car took in nearly all the damage. The officer that was called to the scene issued me a ticket for travelling too fast, which was totally wrong since I took due care in my speed and it was this black ice that caused the accident. Time came to the trial, since I elected to plead not guilty, and it happened that the officer did not show at the trial. The result was a voided ticket and no charge on my record. Now the question is: Should there be any claim or liability towards myself if no ticket of record show for the accident? What is the name of your state?

You were not found "not guilty" on the ticket - it was dismissed for failure to prosecute. That has absolutely no bearing on your defense to the lawsuit for the accident, which, by your own description, was entirely your fault.

The ticket had nothing to do with the accident per se. You were being cited for driving too fast, not for hitting the bus. You are still at fault.

My question though..... What kind of damages is the bus driver claiming? I can't imagine that he or she was injured unless you hit them pretty hard or you were driving a cement truck. I'm assuming that you all were not going that fast see as the bus was making a turn. Sounds like the bus driver needs money and your the piggy bank!

No, it was your unsafe speed (for the conditions present) that caused the accident. That's why you were ticketed. As was said by YAH, the fact that you got off on a "technicality" doesn't change your responsibility for the accident.

follow up

There was no report made to me about damages done to the bus and there was no apparent visable signs of any damage. The claim is solely medical in nature. Also, I had filed bankruptcy, finalized in March 2006 and wonder if this has any effect on this suit since it was an accident that was before the filing. However, it was not listed as a debtor since the filing of the suit just happened recently.

Did you have insurance at the time of the accident? If so, report the lawsuit to them ASAP and they will provide for your defense.
