What is the name of your state? Illinois

Just need a little clarification...;)

If you obtain new debt after your bankrupcty case has been closed, you cannot re-open your case to add that new debt, correct? I understand that new debt and new creditors cannot effect your closed bankruptcy case, but new debt and new creditors can effect your already damaged credit, correct? Sorry just going back and forth with my cousin. His bankruptcy case is closed and done with but he keeps thinking that the trustee will re-open his case and think twice about it due to new debt, crazy, isnt he:confused: Anyways, I just told him be prepared to have to pay your new debt, thats all!

Correct me if I am wrong, thanks!

Unless he committed some sort of fraud that was discovered after the case was closed then, the trustee is done.
Post bk debt won't be discharged even if the case was reopened.
If he's nervous about new credit then prehaps he ought to just live on a cash basis until he settles down.

No fraud, it is just more hospital bills due to cancer. He has not applied for any kind of credit at all. Told him just pay them little by little if he cant pay it all at once. I think he is just nervous that he has more hosptial bills and can pay them all at once. Thinks the trustee will take away his bankrucpty!!

Your cousin's bankruptcy is DONE, OVER, Finished ! The Trustee isn't going to 'take away' his bankruptcy just because he has new hospital bills.

Your cousin needs to get on the ball with the billing office at the hospital otherwise he'll wind up back in collections with lawsuits down the road. Make whatever financial arrangments he can BEFORE it gets bad. The medical providers won't accept $20/month payments, if the bill can't be paid in full in 90 days, they'll send it to collections.

Thank you! I told him it wouldnt effect his bankruptcy in any kind of way!
I have never had a bill go to collections but I believe he has one or two that have made it already. What kind of run is he in for? Im taking a wild guess here but that they are going to want the money in full no matter how big the bill is, correct? and I am assuming if he doesnt pay it it will even come down to going to court and garnishing his wages, correct? So on top of all that, he will have a bankrupcty on his credit and if he doesnt pay, even a judgement? Oh, thats great!

Are there debt programs for medical bills or does that just rely on credit cards, loans, etc.?

Yes, he can be sued and have judmgents on top of the bankruptcy. Definitely no way to rebuild post-bankruptcy.

Your cousin MAY be eligible for certain financial programs with the hospital, but he needs to contact them BEFORE the debt gets totally out of hand.
