What is the name of your state? TEXAS

Good Morning,

I ran my credit report the other day and found that there were items that were duplicated on my credit report. It appears that a collection agency bought the file and then transferred the file to another agency.

Am I able to get items like that off of my credit report? I'm new to this and really am trying to improve my credit rating by first starting with getting rid of stuff that doesn't need to be on there.

Please advise. Because I have two outstanding debts that have that situation. One was for a student loan which I am currently working on getting repaid and the other is an old cc.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, accounts can be reported twice, by the original creditor and the collection agency. However, if the CA buys the debt, the OC must list it as a $0 balance due.

Student loans are often reported numerous times. Why? Because often the dispursements are listed by themselves, for example: One loan for $5000 can be reported twice initially if there were two dispursement for it, then, if the person defaults, it can be listed by the CA as well...

Thanks

Thanks for the info.

I know that the OC has not zeroed out the balance and another CA that took the account before transferring it to another has not zeroed it out. I just know that it's showing that I have more money out there for collections than there should be.

Can someone give me some help on what sort of letter should be written to get them to zero out the balance? As you can tell, I'm new to this and want to make sure that I'm doing everything possible to improve my credit score.
