I live in California and I have researched this and have found an array of answers that dispute each other. My mother passed away, and I am the only living relative, as my father and siblings passed away many years ago. My mother was 88 years old and did not have a will, as she had no possessions, only her checking account. Each time I have contacted the bank, I don't get a straight answer. What do I need to do and what documentation do I need to close her banking account without a will? The bank is Bank of America. I don't know if that makes any difference

Thank you for your assistance.
