Read your new home contract very carefully. There should be all sorts of acceptable reasons for delays due to weather, on-site conditions, scheduling problems, sick workers, lack of building materials, architectural/engineering requests for information, shortage of workers, building code issues, waiting for building inspector to inspect etc. There may also be some unacceptable reasons. It is very common for a new home to be delayed from 2-6 weeks. The builder or your sales agent should have informed you up front. Ask your builder for a current completion schedule and plan accordingly. If the builder is goofing off and not using best efforts to complete the home, you may have recourse. You need to be at the house every day or as many days as you can to check on the progress and show your presence.
