What is the name of your state? iowa

Hello...I am just wondering how long my ex has to send me bills and still expect me to pay for them? She usually waits 4-5 months to send them to me and I have told her to send me them right away but she just never does. Usually by the time she sends them my son has gone to the doctor several times again. I keep track thru my insurance when she takes them and when the bills are submitted and paid for and so I know that she can send them months earlier than she does. Is there a specific amount of time that she should be sending them to me?
Also, my court order says nothing about paying for all the co-pays. I spend alot of money on CS and insurance (not that I am complaining) but, does she have to bother me with every little co-pay too? My insurance is good enough that co-pays are like $10 and she still wants me to pay $5!! It just seems a little ungrateful that when I pay out as much as I do for my son that she feels the need to bother me for the small co-pays.
Thanks! What is the name of your state?

If your order states that you are to cover half of uninsured costs, then you have to pay half of the copay.

Does your order say anything about how much time she has to submit the bills to you?

Since you can keep track thru your ins, and know when he's seen the Dr. just set aside the $5.00 each time, then when she finally gets around to sending you the bills it won't be so aggravating to you. There's nothing you can do about forcing her to send them right away, so don't let the whole thing irritate you.

So, you don't like being bothered with paying just one petty $5 co-pay, yet you don't want her holding bills until they have accumulated for a few months so that you are reimbursing her for several co-pays at once? What exactly do you propose as a solution?

C'mon Ceara...paying a "petty" co-pay isn't the point. We see this type of post here often...the CP sits on bills expecting a nice chunk of change, which is unfair to the person who has to pay them.

A solution the OP has: send the ex a letter asking her to send the bills within 5 calendar days of when she receives them. The OP also have the option of modifying your order to include language where she must send those bills within 5 days.

Of course, since there is no language regarding bills, I am assuming there is nothing regarding paying the other parent back in a timely manner, so the OP can always pay her back 5 dollars at a time when that bill comes in from the ex. ;)

No it says nothing about sending them in a certain amount of time.
Contact your attorney and ask about state statutes regarding medical reiumbursement. I couldn't find it on the web but there may be something codified that states the proper time period.

Go back and read the original post again. The OP SPECIFICALLY complains about the $5 co-pays.

Missed that. The OP needs to review their orders to see if the CP is responsible for an ex amount per year (i.e. the first 150/year/child) before the other parent needs to pay for a portion.

Things could be alot worse, my Uncle was ordered to pay ALL uncovered medical expenses- including aspirin and other OTCs. My Aunt would literally send him one reciept every single day of the year for over 9 years for simple things like aspirin, cough syrup, etc.
At first he was mad, then he didn't let it bother him, every payday he'd total up the reciepts and mail a check to her. Of course she had a fit, but the court refused to do anything because my Uncle was following the court order.
The bottom line is this- don't let the small things get to you, you'll be alot happier.

Hello all!
Thanks for the replies. I really just get so tired of hearing from her every time she has a little bill. I don't say that I don't have to pay for half but I guess that if I had to call up and piss and moan and start a fight every time that I call about a $5.00 bill I guess that I would just not bother at all!!! But, that is after all what she wants to do....being a bitter bag is what she does best.:)

In iowa I read that I have to start paying half after she pays the first $250 out of pocket....is that how it works? Of course she says that it our case is so special that it does not pertain to our case. If any one knows I would really love an answer to that.

Nodiggety....you are right about there not being any time frame in which I have to send her the money back. I will definitely keep that one in mind!! The only problem is...if I don't send HER the money in a few days she calls me up over and over again asking where it is!!! Seriously....for $5!! She spends more than that on a cup of coffee!!!!

Ceara19....The real point is....if she is going to act like a $5 bill is a life and death matter for her...then maybe she should send it out to me right away so that I can pay up and get her off my a@@!

Thanks again!!

Did you ever think it could take her that long to get the bill showing what she owes? She may nto be waiting. My ex and I received a bill in late June for surgery our daughter had in February! Maybe you should be thankful that it is only $5 for a copay. And if you wait too long, the court could see it not abiding by due diligence. Prove that she is holding on to these bills for months and not getting them to you promptly when she gets them.

Well....I know exactly when she gets the bills from her medical clinic, dentist, specialist etc. The bills are all dated and besides that...I have an online account set up with my insurance company and I know the exact date that everything is paid for. I always have to receive a bill from her though....because in the past she just would call me and tell me that I owed her X amount of dollars and then I came to find out that she had insurance through her job and what my insurance didn't cover hers did. In other words...she was taking me for a ride on medical costs and making money off of me. She is a real peach!! Since last January she has dropped her insurance so now I just insist on getting a bill from her and that is how it has to be.
