my husbands brother lives in west covina, california. many years ago my husband agreed to cosign on a lease for his brother to rent an apartment. his brother has off and on had financial problems. my husband wants to be taken off the rental agreement to protect our credit and finances. he sent the manager a letter in october stating his desire to be removed from the agreement. when he contacted the manager she said she would not remove him unless he came in in person. i thought that as long as you gave written notice that was all that was needed, is it?

No a cosigner for a lease is obligated for the term of the lease....so when the lease is up for renewal, then a landlord can take you off the lease, and you brother would have to qualify on his own...if he cant qualify on his own credit... he will be evicted.
