What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Connecticut.
In the state of Connecticut, how long does a collection agency have to keep pursing a debt by mail that was acquired from a credit card company?
The original debt was $9,000 six years ago, and I get one page letters every few months from a credit card company telling me they would settle for a reduced amount. (The settlements gets lower each letter, the latest offer was for $1700). Sometimes I get collection notices from different companies. The collection company never lists the original creditors.
I am reluctant to pay them because how do I even know these collection agency are even legitimate? That the debt would actually be closed? I have written back asking for itemization and documentation for me to sign so I will legally be relieved of the debt, but they never answer. There has been no threat of them taking legal action. What is the best course of action for me? Wait until the statute of limitations expire?
