I was rear-ended in 1989. Two years later I was rewarded a judgement ($100,000) due to the automobile accident. The driver of the other car had no insurance, was found physically and mentally handicaped and his license was suspended for life. I was told at the time that I probably would never see the money. I have recently had to go on SSDI mostly due to the effects of the accident. I have a hard time understanding why he does not have to pay. Is it just because he is disabled? He doesn't own anything but he is working and does receive a paycheck. Is there anything I can do and is it worth the trouble?

You have learned that getting a judgment is really just the start of the collection process.

You need to collect on the judgment and there are many ways to do that. But, if the debtor is judgment proof, you may never collect a dime. However, it is wise to continue to renew the judgment. Maybe the person will buy property, win the lotto, or in some other way come into money.

good luck
