I have a collection account listed on my credit report for a hospital bill in my wife's name. The account is from a hospital bill that the insurance didn't pay. I payed it off through the collection agency. The account is listed as a paid/collection account. I've contacted the agency by mail, asking to remove the info. I received a reply that the account was paid by me. I sent another letter saying that I paid it on behalf of another party, and the reply "Spouses are subject to credit reporting regardless of which spouse received the services."
Is this last statement true? Will this account stay on My credit report, rather than on my wife's?
Is it required that I tell the credit agency our marriage status? They stated "If you were not legally married to 'wife' on 'date' you need to document that."
How do I get this information removed from my report?
