What is the name of your state?Ohio

My Mother called the other day saying that she had a hospital bill that had been turned to collections, but it came to her house with my name on it. The bill is in no way connected to me, but it has my name, with my Dad's SS number.

I call to find out why, and after arguing for a while, I find out that about 5 years ago, my Mom had a hospital bill for me ( when I was a minor) that she neglected to pay and since my name was on the account from before my name now shows up connected to her. He told me it does not affect my credit in any way, and they know I have nothing to do with it, but in their records my parents and I have had an account before, so it still shows us all together.

I told the guy, I dont care about any of that, and that I want my name excluded from any future communication attempts with my parents. He said he has nothing to do with that. After arguing longer he finally got crappy and hung up on me, because I was wasting his time.

Today she gets another letter, and my name is still associated with the account.

I know my Mother should be taking care of her bills, but thats her business. I should not be involved and would not be if this place would take me out of the account.

What can I do now? Do I have any recourse?

The collection agency CAN'T take you off the account, the hospital would have to do that. You have no LEGAL liability for the debt, so what are you worried about ?? If you want to gripe, call the hospital.
