What is the name of your state? Washington

I am having a problem with a collection agency on a debt that they refuse to remove from my credit reports. The original creditor cant even verify this debt, or give me any info about it. The collection agency has only our name, address and account number. This is no other info on this debt. I have requested proof such as payment history, last payment date, and reason for the amount owed. And all I get back is our info and the account number with amount owed. What else can I do. They have marked the account disputed, but I want it off of there.

If they can't prove it, they MUST remove it , per the FCRA. If you've asked for validation from the CA and they haven't provided it, or claim they can't, then they HAVE to stop collections and remove it from your CR.

Have you disputed with the credit bureaus ? Is that how it got its 'disputed' notation ?

If you asked for validation from the CA, and they sent you anything in writing that admits they can't validate, then send that along with a certified letter of your own to the CRA's and ask that it be removed because it cannot be validated. If you don't have that and its been a while since you asked for validation with no results, then you need to send a copy of your first DV letter along with the green card showing they got it, to the CRA's asking they remove it as it can't be validated.

If you disputed with the CRA's and they have verified it, then you need to write and ask for a copy of the details of HOW they verified it.

You say in your post that you've spoken with the original creditor.

What type of business are they in (i.e. bank, computer company, etc.)?

Something about your post raises honesty flags ... I find it very hard to believe you when you say the original creditor couldn't tell you what the debt is for.

The debt is from Dish Network. They no longer have any info on this debt, such as payment history, last payment made and the final bill that was turned over to the collection agency. I never even recieved a final bill from them when I cancelled the service back in March of 2000. And yes I did honer the 1 year contract. They couldnt even tell me name of the collection agency that had this account. This is the 2 agency to have this account. The first one was unable to verify the account, so it was sent to this new one. The only reason I have the name of the agency is from my credit report.

So you obviously know what this is for (satellite service) despite your initial claims of ignorance. What is the amount of the bill?

I never said I didnt know who the creditor was or what it was for. I cant get proof that I owe the bill. They cant verify I owe the bill. If they would sent me proof, I would be more than happy to pay this bill, and I have told the collection agency this over the phone and in a letter sent ceritfied mail, RR. All I got back was a standard letter with our name, account number and amount due (167.00). This is not proof.

I suggest you contact the original creditor and ask them to itemize the services they are billing you for. It sounds like it is for your final bill from the company. I suspect you didn't cancel properly.

Thank God!! If he could read, he would see that I said Dish Network has no info on this account. And that I did cancel this service the correct way.

Do you, by any chance, have a copy of the letter you used to cancel the service.. or is that no how it had to be done ??
