My elderly mother has been harrassed by a bill collector who coerced her into paying $2700 from her visa card - which would reduce this debt in half. However, now Mom doesn't want to do this and she tried to dispute the charge. The credit card company said there is nothing she can do. I don't think this is right. Doesn't she have the right to change her mind? She said she wasn't thinking clearly at the time. She is 81 years old.

The charge on her card was most likely done as a cash advance, hence no protections when she changed her mind. If your mother is unable to make these kind of financial decisions, I would suggest that a compentent family member be given power of attorney priveliges. Unfortunately, it is probably too late to do anything now.
