collection costs for bad checks

What is the name of your state? colorado

If I inadvertently wrote a bad check (my bank closed my checking account due to checks deposited that didn't clear) what fees am I responsible for paying to the collection agency. The origional check was for only 9.16 and the agency wants me to pay fees totaling 40.00, so I would owe them 49.16.
