A woman who was considered a specialist of consumer debt stated on one of the morning shows that if a credit card debt has been turned over to a collection agency or sold to another agency then the consumer should not pay the debt to the collection agency as the credit card company has already taken a tax write off on that debt and therefore is not entitled to any futher compensation. Is this true and if so is it legal for the collection company to continue to try to collect the debt after the consumer informs them that they will not be paying the debt for this reason??
2nd question, a debt more than 6 years old is trying to be recovered by a company that bought the debt from the credit card company. Is there a statute of limitations in collection of a credit card debt (this is the first time anyone has even requested payment of the debt 1993 debt)
3rd question: The original debt was $2,800.00 and now, because of interest, is $8,050.00. Can interest continue to accrue for this long a period of time?
Any help you can give me concerning these matters is greatly appreciated.
