What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia

Apartment complex turned us over to collections for $417.58. The issue is when we moved we overpaid them by $474.19 so they owe us $56.61. I have already explained this issue to a rep before and he said everything would be fine. Now they turned us over to collections. I want them to pay out, do I have a case??

Of course you have a case. That's not the point. The question you ought to be asking is a simple one: "Can I substantiate my claim?" If so, you will win.

Dispute this claim with the collection agency IN WRITING with a copy to mgmt AND advise them BOTH you will file in Small Claims for the remainder of the funds owed you...do it in WRITING and do it NOW!!
