Can a bill collector just mosey on over and obtain my credit report? I was under the impression that they could only report to the bureau. I just got my credit report, and it shows that a bill collector requested my report exactly one week before I received it. The permissable purpose was listed as =credit transaction. Now, I haven't applied for any kind of credit in over a year, and I certainly did not give this company permission to obtain my report. Do people whom I owe money really have a right to access my credit report???
