I live in Illinois, I signed a lease for a year on an apartment, I moved out after 5 months because I graduated college and moved back home. My roommates were supposed to have had someone to take my spot. ANYWAY they dont and now they are going to take me to court and I know Im liable but I have no job and no money and may even go back to school somewhere else if I cant find a job, what is going to happen if we go to court since I cant pay it? I have nothing of value unless they want to reposes my shoes.

I AM ALWAYS LIABLE

My response:

A contract is your promise to be obligated. You signed a lease, which is a contract to be bound to certain terms and conditions.

You have no defense. You will lose.

They will obtain a judgment against you. A judgment can last for up to 20 years. You can bet that at some point during those 20 years, you'll have a job or a bank account. They will be able to garnish your wages, and / or empty your bank account.

The longer it takes you to pay the judgment, the more money you will owe. Remember, there's interest accruing on that judgment and, at a greater rate than a savings account. If I were the judgment creditors, I'd hold off from trying to collect from you for many years - - just to let that interest keep mounting.
