What is the name of your state? SC

On Nov. 13 I overdosed on anti-depressants and was sent to a Psychiatric Institute until the 17th. My roommates asked me to move out so I had nowhere to live for about a week. I spoke to the Dean of Undergraduate Affairs and she allowwed me to contact my professors and speak to each of them about my situation. I explained that I would be back at the beginning of December, therefore only missing 1 week of classes unexcused. They all worked with me and accepted my situation wholeheartedly.

The Dean of Undergrad Affairs asked me to have a Psychiatrist perform an assessment of mental health in order to allow me to move back into the dorms for next semester. At no point in time did she say I wouldn't be allowwed to come back for classes next semester. So I had a Psychiatrist do this and she told the Dean that yes, I was ready to return to school and I could live in the dorms.

I got a phone call three days ago from the Dean saying that the Psychiatrist's assessment was not acceptable and I would not be allowwed to return to college next semester or at any other time until they deemed that I was acceptable to return to college. She gave me a list of questions that I could have filled out by another Psychiatrist and a team of Doctors who I spoke with today. The psychiatrist has been trying to get in touch with the dean for the past 2 days but has basically been given the run around. I have to have this done within the next week.

I feel like no matter what I do, the Dean isn't going to find it good enough for me to return. My question is, if they find the recommendations of 2 certified Psychiatrists and a team of doctors unacceptable can I sue them for discrimination or anything else?

Any feedback you give me is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

You have given us the sanitized version, now give us the truth and facts, at this point I see no discrimination.
Answer the following:
What is your age?
Is this a public or private university?
How were you doing prior to your suicide attempt?
How were your relationships with your roomates and other students?
Were you under stress?
How long have you been treated for depression?
Do you drink alcohol, how frequently?
recreational drugs?
What rx do you take?
What did you OD on, how much?
Will you be able to make up the work and complete all your assignments, examinations?
Upon what are you basing this claim of discrimination?

What is your age? 18
Is this a public or private university? Public
How were you doing prior to your suicide attempt? I was doing well in & outside of classes.
How were your relationships with your roomates and other students? I do not speak with my roommates because they feel I've ruined their lives. As for everyone else, all my friends were completely supportive of me.
Were you under stress? No.
How long have you been treated for depression? 5 years.
Do you drink alcohol, how frequently? No.
recreational drugs? No.
What rx do you take? I was on Celexa, which the doctors say was the wrong anti-depressant for me. Now I am on Zoloft, 100 mg/day
What did you OD on, how much? I OD'd on anti-depressants (Celexa) 220 mg.
Will you be able to make up the work and complete all your assignments, examinations? I have already made up all work, completed all assignments, and have taken all but one exam.
Upon what are you basing this claim of discrimination? I feel that I have given substantial evidence that I am ready to return to school. They have allowwed me to come back to finish this semester out, yet don't want me to come back next semester which makes no sense whatsoever. I think they are discriminating against me based on a psychiatric illness, which under the ADA is a disability.

If you want to claim ADA, then you will need to request in writing, ADA accommodations, it is then up to the school to assess the appropriateness of the requested accommodations, that may be the process you are going through. Your university should have a director of disability services who can assist you in the process of accommodations. The Rx you were taking also treats anxiety and in some cases, bi-polar, so getting an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan is essential especially if you have a problem with either bi-polar and or anxiety, in either case less than full time would reduce your stress. Quite frankly I would also suggest taking a semester off or at least cutting back to 1/2 time, while you are adjusting to the new medicaiton.
