I am have been living with my ex husband for the past 6 years. In that time he has purchased a new home, and several thousand dollars in antiques. He pays the house pmt. as well as insurance. I am paying all other bills, includding buying grocerys, toletries, and all extras. I also pay the phone bill which is primarily his calls long distance to his kids. I am leaving, and would like to know if I am entitled to anything . I don't want the antiques, but would like a monetary settlement. Am I entitled to ANYTHING? He says no, I believe I am.thank you

How would we know ?

You never mentioned your State name, as the red writing said when you were writing your post, and also as it says in red writing at the very top of this page.

Please click on "Reply to Post" to tell us your State name, and we'll try to research your question.

My response:

Since Ohio IS NOT a "Common Law" marriage State, and since you are already divorced from him, your status with him is merely that of "boyfriend / girlfriend". As such, and in the absence of a written agreement to the contrary, neither of you are entitled to that which belongs to the other; i.e., if the house is in his name, you have no legal entitlement to anything concerning the house - - and that goes for everything else, too.

The law protects marriage and married persons. It does not protect people when they "shack up".

Sorry. But he's right.
