I am from Denver Colorado. i am currently engaged to a man who lived with an ex-girlfriend for five years. He had moved to the state to live with a buddy and this girl was a roommate of this friend. They started a sexual relationship that turned into a real relationship and that ultimately led to a proposal. They were engaged for two years before he called the wedding off. He attempted to move out of the house and the landlord said he could break the lease if she said it was ok. She said that it was not ok and trapped him into living there another year until the lease was over. he did move out and has had minimal contact with her since. He says that they never presented themselves as being married, she did not use his last name and when her company required them to sign a common law marriage voucher for him to be on her insurance he refused to sign it and was not added to her insurance at that time. What i'm concerned with is that there may be legal hoops we need to jump through before we are married in November. Would this be a common law marriage?
