Hello,
I would like to know if common law marriage is recognized in my stare, New Jersey for tax purposes. Also, what about federal taxes? My "partner" provides all financial support for both of us and we have been living together for the past 8 years.

Thank you

My response:

New Jersey is NOT a Common Law marriage State. All you're doing is "shacking up" together. Period.
