What is the name of your state? Ma
I am involved in a difficult situation at a company and specifically made an accusation of sexual harassment. Since then, I believe I have been the target of a backlash and that certain comments made about me have bordered on libel or defamation of character, which I believe to be a direct consequence of an accusation which I very definitely stand by.
I have been to an attorney but do not have enough proof of this defamation. The particulars of my case are such that there were some very specific comments made by people who work in this companyy and more specifically by actual representatives of HR at this company. I have a Master's degree and about 20 years of experience in my field. I have one US patent and 10 publications. I would not make this up and would not complain (which threatens my livelihood) if this situation was not as bad as I claim. The attorney I consulted was very honest and what I need is more corroboration before he would 'take my money'. I want to post an inquiry on the company message board of Yahoo and seek information about my case from past employees, many of whom post notices on this message board. I would refrain from going into any specific details, would certainly not mention any individuals name and would probably state that my comments remain unproven.
What civil liability is there for anything I post on the Internet assuming I mention no person's name and further state that these are alleagations only. I do not want to stoop to the level of the individuals in question at that company in regards to these matters but I also want to continue the process pf looking for the corroboration I need to build my lawsuit. Can I post simple requests on a Yahoo business website (which I know to be visited primarily by many past employees). This is a good venue for me to solicit the information I require and I would supply an Yahoo email address for private correspondence rather than making this public thru a public Internet message board exchange. What are my legal limitations on these forums ? I do not want to be guilty of the very same scurrilous comments that I maintain were aimed at damaging my reputation. I do have more than one person to corroborate but these corroborations were done off the record, with the corroborators stating that thay would not testify or go public for a variety of reasons (fear of retaliation against them being one). Ex-employees are much less prone to be concerned about company retaliation hence my interest in a pu8blic Internet forum. Pls advise.
