I live in W.VA - company in question is based out of Maryland but has sites in W.VA as well. I had 2 containers stored in W.VA through this company. Bought one of the containers directly from this company as well, on time. When it came time to relocate the containers, I spoke with the son of the owner - who addressed himself as being in a position to make decisions on behalf of the company. I was calling to get the payoff balance. I was given a balance other than what I was originally quoted. After a lengthy conversation, company realized they had originally misquoted price of container, but they would honor the original quote. The son and I came up with the final price after adjusting their mistake on the cost of the container. We then negiotated a price for loading the containers. The loading price was less than normal due to my long term business. After checking through my records, I found I was still being overcharged by $35. When I called the company they admitted to seeing the error, but also admitted that since I had called the error to their attention, they would not correct it and I would have to pay the additional $35 to get my containers. I obviously paid the extra money - under duress!! I advised them that it was simple extortion! They admitted that they were making me pay extra money "just because"... It was not a late fee, nothing. I had simply made them mad because I called a $35 error to their attention and they had already discounted my loading fee. What recourse do I have? I know it's not a lot of money we are talking about, but I just can't believe a company could be so blatant in doing that. The containers and their contents are worth over $30k, so I wasn't going to hold their re-location up to fight over $35. Is it too late to do something? Thank you
