i had a little stock in the company i worked for in north carolina in 1975. i never touched the stock, and was told the company went bankrupt years later. is this something worth investigating further, how can i tell?

Check the corporate filing records in the secretary of state's office in NC (assuiming it was an NC corp) and see if the company is still in existence, or had changed its name and/or ever was merged into something, like hopefully Microsoft.... But after 25 years it seems unlikely.
