The company I work for requires that we go on outings several times a year. These are mandatory outings that we must drive to in our own cars. The question is since these outings are mandatory, couldn't the company be held responsible if someone is involved in an accident on the way to and from one of these outings? They are usually about an hour a way.

Yes, they could be. That's why the company probably carries both workers comp and liability insurance.

That is a very good question. Please consult this site's attorney listing for an attorney nearest you and question him about this matter. You probably want one that practices personal injury auto matters. The reason I say that is let's say that you are invovled in an auto accident on the way to or from the company event. The non-employee who was injured in the accident with you; the other driver, does he get covered by your vehicle insurance policy or by the company's general liability policy? And as for you, under your state's laws will you be required to choose your remedy? In other words, do you have to choose whether you will have your vehicle insurance pay for your bodily and property damage, or choose to have the company's workers' compensation pick up the bodily injury portion only. Good luck!
