Freshman Dacota was shoved to the ground by a senior. A shove that shattered the bones in Dacota's upper arm! Ambulance ride to the hospital - 4 1/2 hour surgery - hospitalized for 3 days! Dacota's upper arm now consists of a steel plate, 3 pins & a steel wire. It will be quite a few weeks before the pain gets better. He will need 6-8 months of physical therapy. Even with this therapy, there is the possibility that he may not be able to straighten his arm all the way. Dacota will not be able to continue his drivers's ed class, therefore will not obtain his shool permit as planned. He will be very limited on his activities for quite awhile.

The police have charged the senior with serious assault. Dacota had gotten a little mouthy to this senior earlier that night at a high school dance (this did not happen at the dance). Dacota might have deserved a bloody nose but certainly did not deserve this! I do believe that the senior did not actually mean to hurt Dacota to this extent - BUT the fact remains...

Dacota's mom does have health insurance through her work for Dacota. There will still be out of pocket medical bills. There will be much pain and suffering. Therapy will be an 80 mile round trip a few days a week. And there is the loss of Dacota's driving permit and his sports for the entire year! How does Mom go about trying to get compensation for all that Dacota is going to endure? Will she have to hire a lawyer and to to court?
