Our son was a passenger in a friend's car when an accident occurred; the friend was NOT responsible - driver of the other vehicle was charged with FTY. Our son is close to settling with the insurance company of the responsible party; we have been told that insurance companies go by guidelines and that the guideline for pain & suffering is 3 times the amount of his medical bills.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? His medical bills so far are $3500 and the insurance company has offered $2500 (over & above the medical bills paid) for pain & suffering & loss of wages. He has a broken collarbone & has been out of work for 6 weeks. Thanks.

My response:

Do yourself and your son a favor. Hire an attorney.
