I'm from West Virgina, a single mother of a two and a half year old boy. His father and I split up over a year ago. We were never married. He is his paternal father and is on the birth certificate. I applied for child support over a year ago and have never recieved a court date. I asked the father if he would sign his Paternal, custodial and legal rights over to me and he has agreed. He signed a paper and we had it notorized. I know that it is not a legal document and will not hold up in court. I also know that we have to go to court to make this all legal. So my question is.. since the father agrees to sign all rights over and I agree that he will not have to pay child support.. what do I need to do? I cannot find anyone to give me any free legal advice on what I need to do or get.. Please help me....

Thanks

Are you sure there isn't legal aid where you live. Check the yellow pages under attorneys, call the magistrate, an attorney's office and see if they know. Legal aid can give you free advice. Here we also have a lawyer referral service. They refer you to a lawyer and you call that office and tell them you were referred by them and they only charge (here) $35 for the consultation.
