Alaska. I bought an emachine computer thinking I am using an internet service anyway so I made my decision to purchase based on the price after the $400 rebate from compuserve and a $75 rebate from emachines.
First problem was who to send the original receipt to since both compuserve and emachines asked for it. Compuserves rebate was for $400 so I sent them the original and emachines a copy.
Emachines did not send the $75 rebate because I did not have an original receipt.
Compuserve worked mostly ok for about 7 months except that compuserve sometimes froze my mouse and I would have to reboot to free it again, but I usually got on line in 10 minutes or so. Compuserve would also disconnect without warning.
I noted compuserve offers of unlimited internet for $10 a month
I figured ok I am paying more so compuserve is getting their $400 back
still not the worst deal in the world.
Until it became almost impossible to sign on.
I would spend several hours just trying to sign on.
I made it through a few times and tried unsuscessfully to find a way to contact compuserve using the internet.
Nothing.
So I signed up for other internet services.
I kept compuserve as well. didn't know how to cancel it.
Eventually I paid off and canceled the creciit card I had used to sign up with. They canceled my service. It didn't work anyway.
So I was paying for nothing.
Their law office called demanding $450 .
There was a $50 penality I had only paid for 11 months.
I only got to use it 7.
I would have prefered to keep compuserve if it had worked.
I didn't feel I was doing the right thing because I and I am sure a lot of other people were cheated by compuserve, but I went to my credit union and had them draft a credit union check to compuserve for $450 which I sent registed mail on dec 26 2000.

their law office called threatening to put me on the bad credit lists
unless I paid them again. I gave them the check numbers etc they called my credit union and determined that the check had not been cashed.
I went to the credit union
The credit union said the check was not cashable since it was over 90 days old.
I put in a stop payment on the uncashable check so the crecit union will refund my $450 in 30 days.
Do I have to pay compuserve since they had my check and neglicted to cash it.
They couldn't even find it.
I wouldn't pay for a car that didn't run why should I pay for an internet service that doesn't, didn't run?
What would you do?
Should I send the money again?
Will it do any good?
WHAT ARE THE DISADVANTAGES OF PUTING A
AOL RIPED ME OFF
BUMPER STICKER ON MY CAR?
Thanks duane
