While I was renting a bedroom from a friend, she became angry with me while I was away and went into my computer and got into the archive of one of my chat programs and took private conversations I had had with people she knew. She has shared these conversations with other people and used knowledge gained from them to harrass certain people and to slander me. Do I have any recourse against her for this? I have no actual proof that she has the conversations, and since I have moved my computer from her home, I cannot access any of the files because it is now not working properly. I was able to get into it enough to know that some things have been deleted from my computer, but have not been able to access it further. I don't know if she purposely did something to my computer to make it not work properly, or if it was damaged in the move. I am inclined to just walk away and leave her to her own demons, but she is hurting people whom I consider friends, using the info from my computer, and would like to at least make her stop. I would appreciate any advice in this matter.
