Concerned that my mother may harm herself, what can I do?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia

My mother has always been emotionally unstable. However, eight days ago she quit taking ALL of her medications (several for anxiety, depression, mood stability). The withdrawal effects from abruptly stopping all of her medications combined with her existing psychological problems have created a situation that I can only describe as "Living Hell" for all of my family members!

For the record, my mother has two children- I am 34 and my sister is 37. She has a husband (not our father) and he refuses to discuss the severity of the current situation. He simply disappears for hours at a time while we try to ride out the storm, so to speak.

I've never felt so helpless and out of control in my life. I'm terrified that my mom might harm herself or even take her own life. She hasn't threatened suicide, but I believe she is capable of ANYTHING right now.

Legally, what can I do to protect her? Or is my step-father the only one who has the legal right to take action?

I'm desperate, exhausted and heart-broken.....any information or guidance will be truly appreciated.
