NY State. The tenant below me is the landlord's son and hasn't had to pay rent for over three years.
We used to be friends but he has lorded the fact that my landlord is his father. He has harrassed me with verbal threats, how to maintain the premises and since he has the keys to my flat, has been in my place, in my abscence and bragged about it. I am of course moving out,
but I would like to know of the landlord's liability for this?

If what you are looking for is some money from making a lawsuit, I think you will be disappointed. Of course, you will find no shortage of attorneys to file a case for you.

The landlord hasn't done anything to you. Additionally, your petty complaints aren't worth the courtroom time that it would take even for your complaint to be dismissed.
