If an attorney has provided legal service (on numerous occasions) to someone (my mother) in the past, is it legal for them to now take an adversarial position (someone is suing my mom) with their previous client (my mom), or is there some sort of "statute of limitations"?

*** As long as the two cases are not related in any way, there is no conflict of interest. For example, lets say that this attorney handled tax issues for your mother in the past (even as recent as yesterday). There is no 'conflict' if they now represent another party against her in a breach of contract suit.

And time has nothing to do with it.... only the nature of the representation.
