What is the name of your state? I live in MD, but work in MD, DC, and VA.
Ok, I work for a security company in Virginia as a project manager. Recently, I was asked to bring in a new sub-contractor to perform some of the work on our contracts. I have a friend that is trying to get himself established as a subcontractor, doing the the work that we are looking for (cable installation). I told my employer that the contractor I wanted to bring in was a friend, and they have no problem with that. I worked closely with my friend to help him get established, mostly because I would like to transition over to work with him sometime in the future. My employer worked with my friend to establish a price for the first job, and the price has now been accepted. I would like to continue to work with my contractor friend (consulting, and providing labor on the weekends), but I am unsure if I can legally, and ethically get paid for this work while I am still employed by my employer. My employer does not have any non-compete, or no moonlighting clauses, and there will never be a time when my contractor friend will be in competition with my employer. In addition, the work my friend will be doing is not put out for a public bid.
Thanks
