Conflict with roommate about the rent in Massachusetts

First of all, thanks for all of you who are going to help me with my problem.

Hi! My name is Jacky Varares. I have a conflict with my roommate about the rent. Last summer, I posted an advertisement on the internet to look for a new roommate with whom I am going to share the apartment which I have rented for a year.

I stated the term of conditions for the new roommate in the advertisement. One of the conditions is that the rent is $600/month for the room which is going to be rented.

Finally, I picked up a guy who was willing to pay the rent and was satisfied with the room that I showed him. Therefore, I brought him to sign the lease, on which currently has both of our names. He paid the $600 as the rent for September. However, started from October until the end of the lease, every month, he is going to pay $550/month instead of $600/month because of the fairness and the different size of the room. He felt that it is so unfair for him that he need to pay the same rent as mine because he just lived in the smaller room. He claimed that he was not told that he is going to live in the smaller room in the apartment by paying the same rent as mine who is living in the larger room.

In order to prevent me from being evited, I paid the difference of the rent for him every month until the end of the lease. However, I do not think that I should pay the difference for him because I have already told him the different size of the room and he knew that I was going to move from the smaller room to a bigger room. I really want to get back the money that I paid for him. Would anyone mind telling me what I should do and giving me some legal advice?

I would be appreciated if anyone can give me some legal advice to solve my problem.

You have to sue him in small claims court for the $50 amonth, as long as you have all your reciepts for that extra $50, you should have no problem getting a judgement against him, You have a signed lease with his signature for $600 a month.

Now if only you can collect......you probably wil have to see a sherrif and file to attach his paycheck for the money.

One more problem that I've got is there is only the total rent for the whole apt on the lease. What do you think I should do????
