What is the name of your state? Texas. I attended college in LA 1996. I withdrew from college in 1996. The student loans were never disbursed. I owed $1975 to the school. I wrote them a letter stating I would pay a $100/month in 1997. I made 2 payments, the last being in July 1997. The school classified the account as account receivable. I receive a letter in Jan. 2004 from the original creditor(school) stating they had turned the account over to a collection agency (Williams & Fudge) and I had 60 days to contact them or they would contact me. I have not spoken to them yet. The collection agency left messages on mother's answering machine. Then June 2004 I received a letter stating I owed $1775. About 2 weeks later they sent another letter stating I owed $2350. On either letter there was no time limit(such as you have 30 days) stated for me to contact collection agency. I though the collection agency had to communicate directly with the me before sending they mailed the first letter? What is the SOL? If SOL can be used which state applies?
