My question is if a couple get married and have a marriage license, and then they find out that one of the people was still married to another person, is their marriage license void or valid?

Well, the man did not know he was still married to his first wife, he thought she filed for a divorce and she thought he filed and nither one filed, so after many years they met again and found out they were not divorced, so the second marriage is not legal am I right?

Last I knew bigamy was illegal in all states.
When filing out the application was there not a question about previous divorces? If so and the applicant lied to be issued a license, it would tend to invalidate the application and subsequent license.

Although many of the actual attorneys that post on this site seem to advise that one in this situation should file for a divorce to prevent any doubts.
