What are the consequences of buying a residence for myself to live in prior to the divorce??? The housing market is terrible... and I've just found a house that I really love and want to buy.... but I need to know what the consequences will be!!!

Your soon-to-be ex will need to sign a document acknowledging that this property is your sole and separate property.

Are you going to be using marital funds to make the downpayment?...or the mortgage payments? You take the risk of the house being caught up in the marital property settlement. If you are already past the property settlement stage in the divorce, its less risky.

Could you negotiate a rent to own situation for 6 months to a year?
