Consequences of buying Term Life Insurance

I am considering purchasing term life insurance so that my minor children will have funds available (through a trust) should anything happen to me. I would like to know if there are any negatives that would limit them in any way. Would my children not be eligible for college funding from other sources if they were beneficiaries under this policy, or even beneficiaries of the trust that held this policy?
